About Quarter Finder

The Quarter Finder tells you exactly which quarter a date belongs to, along with the quarter’s start and end dates, the day position within the quarter and the fiscal year it falls under.

By default it uses standard calendar quarters, where Q1 covers January to March, Q2 April to June, and so on, but it can also work with a fiscal year that begins in any month.

That flexibility matters because organisations rarely align their financial year to the calendar.

Many governments and companies start their year in April, July or October, which shifts every quarter boundary.

Pick the month your fiscal year starts in and the tool recalculates the quarters accordingly, correctly labelling the fiscal year even when a quarter straddles a calendar year-end — so a January date under an April-start fiscal year lands in Q4 of the previous fiscal year.

It is useful for tagging transactions, planning reporting cycles, scheduling reviews or just answering "what quarter is this?" without counting on your fingers.

All date arithmetic is done in UTC to avoid timezone drift, and everything runs locally in your browser — no dates are uploaded — so it is private and works offline once loaded.

FAQ

How do calendar quarters and fiscal quarters differ?

Calendar quarters always start in January, April, July and October. Fiscal quarters shift to match a financial year that may begin in a different month, so the same date can sit in a different quarter.

How is the fiscal year labelled when a quarter crosses year-end?

The fiscal year is named by the calendar year in which it begins. A date before the fiscal start month belongs to the fiscal year that started in the previous calendar year.
