About Markup Calculator
The Markup Calculator helps you price products the way most retailers and tradespeople actually think: start from what an item costs you, add a markup percentage, and arrive at a selling price.
Enter a cost and a markup and the tool instantly returns the price to charge, the profit per unit, and the equivalent gross margin, so you can sanity-check a price from every angle in one glance.
Markup and margin describe the same profit from two different baselines, and confusing them is one of the most common pricing errors.
Markup is profit expressed as a percentage of the cost: add 50% to a $40 cost and you sell at $60.
Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price, so that same sale is only a 33% margin.
Add a 150% markup instead and the $40 item sells for $100, which is a 60% margin.
The calculator shows both numbers together so you never apply the wrong one to a quote.
Flip the mode to work backwards: enter a cost and the price you already charge, and it tells you the markup and margin those numbers imply.
Negative markups are supported for clearance pricing, and losses are reported plainly.
Everything is computed locally in your browser, so your costs and pricing stay private and the tool works offline.
FAQ
How is markup different from margin?
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. A 150% markup and a 60% margin describe the same sale.
Can I find the markup if I already know the price?
Yes. Switch to the second mode, enter the cost and the selling price, and the calculator returns the markup percentage and the margin it implies.
Is my pricing data sent anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser, so your costs and prices never leave your device.
